They definately can't keep it on there after 11 years, from memory the maximum is seven. The problem is that it isn't neccesarily updated automatically... the simple solution is to write to the credit reporting agency (Baycorp Advantage if you're in Australia) and tell them to remove it because it's discharged, and to send you a copy of your credit report to confirm. They have to do both of these things for you for no fee.

Most Importantly, when you apply for credit somewhere, the financial institution will usually keep a copy of your past credit reports on file. So make sure that the bankruptcy is removed first, and confirm the record is clean, before applying for credit anywhere else. Go to a lender who has never done a check on you before, because chances are the ones that have knocked you back will still have the old credit report in a file somewhere.

From my understanding, the bankruptcy should only show on your report for 10 years from the date of discharge. If it's been 11 years, then it should be off. You may need to send a letter to all three bureaus to have this removed. Or, if you have pulled your reports recently, there should be instructions on how to dispute it online or something. Good luck!

This place is getting pretty sad, with all the spam answers here.

There is absolutely NO reason to go to a credit repair agency to fix this.

Kelly is correct. By law, bankruptcies can only be reported on your history for 10 years. The date begin on the day you filed.

It will help speed things along if you can find a copy of your court paperwork.

Send a dispute letter to the credit bureau that is listing this and demand that it be removed. They have 30 days to investigate your dispute. If it's not removed, pretend that you just won the lottery! File a small claims suit against them for $1000. You will easily win.

Read the Fair Credit Reporting Act for more info..

All you have to do is dispute this with all three credit bureaus. Go to their websites and do a dispute with each one.

They will investigate this. This should have been deleted from your credit after ten years, so they should remove it pretty fast.

Remember that you need to dispute this with all three bureaus.

Bankrupt will always show on your credit report...However there are places that you can reestablish your credit such as pay as you go places .. Capital One credit gives you a chance also.
Good Luck.
