mirtha asked:
How do I obtain my free yearly credit report from the major credit agencies. I have heard that a law was passed and all agencies were to provide a persons credit report free once a year. I have encountered several websites claiming to be free but there are none that i have yet to come across. I do not have a bank account to paypal any of these credit report sites. How do I find the major credit agencies and how do I get my free credit report.

This ehow article (link given below) will teach you how to do this, avoiding the common pitfalls and without getting charged. Good luck!
I got mine free from which is recommended by the government.
AnnualCreditReport was created by the three nationwide consumer credit reporting companies – Equifax, Experian and TransUnion — to comply with government regulations allowing consumers to obtain their free credit reports from those three agencies. Unlike other ways, you don’t have to sign up for something and then remember to cancel since you’re not signing up for anything.
They’re listed on the government’s website:
Everyone is entitled to one free credit report from each of the reporting agencies per year. It’s free. No fees or membership of any kind at all. If anyone asks for any kind of payment for anything they’re frauds.
CAUTION!!!
FreeCreditReports.com is a scam. You only get the “free” report after enrolling in a $15-a-month credit monitoring program.
credit-report-free.totalh.com is a PAY service you should watch out for. They spam the credit related questions on Yahoo Answers. That’s pretty sad and dishonest, and if they have that much time you know they’re not doing good business. They will automatically charge your credit card $15 every month, so BUYER BEWARE!!!
The only place to get your credit reports (without FICO scores) is
Annualcreditreport.com
Website:
Below is some information on why this government mandated service
was made available to the public. You can also, for a small fee, get
your credit score directly when accessing your credit reports through
annualcreditreport.com.
The government mandated that The Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act of 2003 is a United States federal law, passed by the United States Congress on November 22, 2003 and signed by President George W. Bush on December 4, 2003 as an amendment to the Fair Credit Reporting Act. The act allows consumers to request and obtain a free credit report once every twelve months from each of the three nationwide consumer credit reporting companies (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion). In cooperation with the Federal Trade Commission, the three major credit reporting agencies set up the website, annualcreditreport.com, to provide free access to annual credit reports.
The act also contains provisions to help reduce identity theft, such as the ability for individuals to place alerts on their credit histories if identity theft is suspected, or if deploying overseas in the military, thereby making fraudulent applications for credit more difficult. Further, it requires secure disposal of consumer information.
To access this free website, and to be able to view your credit reports (without credit scores, which cost a small fee from each provider, i.e. Trans Union, Equifax, or Experian through annualcreditreport.com only)
Go to this website below:
As I mentioned, you can purchase your credit score for a fee on these site through annualcreditreport.com. If you go to each individual site directly, it will cost you considerably more.
I hope this helps.
You can get your annual credit report from all three credit agencies, once a year, through. You can also call them by phone or send a mailed request. You have the option to get all three at the same time or space them several months apart, whichever you prefer.
Here’s a website that gives step-by-step instructions on how to do it:
