How do I find the collection companies on my credit bureau?

I want to pay of some of my old debt, but when I search the net using te listed company names off my credit bureau, I can’t find any contact info. The actual companies I owe don’t exist anymore or are under new ownership. My accounts have been sold or given away? I don’t know I just want to pay these people back but it’s been a pain in the neck findng someone to work it out with.

Use the credit bureaus to dispute the information (if you haven’t already). If the accounts are verified then the bureaus should post the contact information (or at least the address). If the accounts aren’t verified (i.e. the company doesn’t verify them within 30 days) then they, by law, have to remove them from your credit bureau reports.
You have to contact the original owner of the debt and ask them about paying your bills. They may have charged off the account and sold it to a collection agency. Sometimes the first collections resells accounts to other collection agencies. You should have your current address and phone numbers on your credit report so that the collection agency is also able to contact you. You should also considor challenging this entry and if you are not able contact the collection agency then they have to take it off your credit report in thirty days.
How recently have you pulled your credit reports? There should be contact addresses or telephone numbers for your creditors, even if the accounts have been sold the updated information should be there. If it is not listed and you are unable to obtain the information from the original creditor then I agree with disputing the account. Make the credit reporting agencies do the work if you can’t make any headway with the accounts yourself.
